Baby Feeding Questions
Hello, I have a couple questions if any of you can help.

My son is almost a month old, and we have started him on formula today, he is doing well, much better than with the breast. We had a lot of problems, and for those and other reasons, have decided that formula would be best for us. For any of you who have stopped breastfeeding and gone exclusively to formula feeding, how did you deal with the engorgement that resulted? My breasts are like huge rocks, they hurt so much, and I have no idea what to do, other than ice packs and motrin. Also, how long did it take for your milk to dry up?

I know breastfed babies are supposed to have 5-6 wet diapers and 2-3 bowel movements a day, is it the same for formula fed babies?

Thanks so much in advance, this seems like a good community for me, with women who are in a similar situation as I am.

Amber, mother to 24 day old Adrian

i wouldnt stop nursing "cold turkey". or maybe get a lil cheapo pump. when my daughter was in the hospital i missed a day pumping because i left my pump there and we were at home and fell asleep and what pain i was in. just skipping that overnite pumping sessions. ps its been about 5 months since ive stoppped nursing and im still milking!

I think the output level should be almost the same for formula fed babies. Their stools will be a different consistency than breastfed ones, though--firmer, darker, stinkier.

Indeed. You are a teeny bit late, as my son is now almost 4 and 1/2 months old. Thanks, though.
