Baby Feeding Questions

breastorbottle

[tellinellen]
thanks for letting me into the community. first, an intro: i'm ellen, mom to banjo (benjamin), 9 months. we exclusively breastfeed, and i'm pretty gung ho about it. :) the reason i'm here is because i got an email on one of my mommy lists from a woman who is combo feeding and having some issues. i wrote back giving her advice but thought that it would be better for other combo feeders (or those who know more about it) to advise her. her email is as follows:

Hey, y'all.

I stopped pumping at work when Logan turned 6 months,
and was able to nurse mornings and evenings,
supplementing with formula during the day. At first
everything was OK, but then Mondays started becoming
uncomfortable, because I would nurse throughout the
day on the weekends.

Now I've started supplememnting with formula even
during the weekends to try to maintain the same
schedule, and again, at first it was OK, but here it
is Monday again & I'm feeling like I'm about to burst.
So, Logan's now 7.5 months, and I'm wondering if I'm
getting close to the end of being a nursing mom. I'm
wondering if any of you have gotten to this point &
how it went. As I'm writing this, I'm feeling really
sad, but at the same time, my boobs are killing me!

so, i sense from the email that she wants to continue to combo feed but doesn't know how to do this without getting engorged. i suggested waiting to see if her body adjusts, and if that doesn't work (or if she wants to cut to the chase), starting to pump again but just once a day. another combo feeding mom wrote back as well suggesting the same and/or cosleeping to encourage reverse cycling.

if anyone has any advice for her i will pass it along. (i asked if she would be interested in input from others online and she said yes).

tia!

Is it only Mondays that she feels engorged?

Maybe try sleeping with cabbage leaves on her breasts on Sunday night?
